Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) announced on October 13 that they had blown up a Russian train in Melitopol, cutting off Moscow’s supply of ammunition and gasoline on the Zaporizhia front.

According to SOF, the explosion damaged the railway and the ship carrying ammunition and fuel for the Russian military.

The controlled explosion damaged 150 meters of track and locomotives.

The National Resistance Center of Ukraine said Russia surrounded the explosion scene, trying to cover it up and hunt down guerrilla force members but was unsuccessful.

`The guerrilla group is safe and promises to have more explosions like this in the near future,` the statement said.

Ukraine said that this was the 10th successful attack by guerrilla forces on the railway line in the Zaporizhia region in 2023.

Russia has not commented on the information Ukraine announced.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces began recruiting and training guerrilla forces at the end of 2021, when the conflict with Russia had not yet broken out.

Guerrilla groups are tasked with operating behind enemy lines in Russian-controlled territories, conducting targeted sabotage attacks.

Russia has controlled Melitopol, a city with a population of about 150,000 people, since March 2022.

Retaking Melitopol is one of the top goals when Ukraine counterattacks in the south.

Ukraine’s attacks in the southern region are part of Kiev’s efforts to send troops closer to the Sea of Azov.

The road to Melitopol still contains big challenges for Kiev, according to military expert Rob Lee.

`Russia has three main defense lines there and fortified cities behind them. The question is not just whether Ukraine can penetrate one or two lines, but whether they can penetrate all three and have enough force
